COMMON IDIOMS IN USE

1. Fat chance!: used to express something will never happen
Eg: Do you think that the boss will let us leave early
Fat chance!
2. Not on your life: to emphasize thay you have no intention to do Something
Eg: Are you going to work this weekend
Not on your life. I am going to spend the day on the beach
3. Believe or not: used to express your surprise when talking about something
Eg: Believe or not, It didn’t rain all the time we were in London
4. You’ll never guess: used when you are going to talk about interesting things
Eg: You’ll never guess,my boss wants me to be a manager
5. Heaven knows: I don’t know 
Eg: heaven knows why she left him
6. There’s nothing to touch something: Something is the best
Eg: There’s nothing to touch her beauty
7. If you ask me: used when you are going to talk about your opinion
Eg: if you ask me, young criminals should be put into prison
8. That’s news to me: used when you talk about something you don’t know 
Eg: Bill and Jane were never married
That’s news to me. He always referred to her as his wife
9. It’s beyond me: to emphasize that you don’t know
Eg: It’s beyond me why he said good bye to me
10. Not my cup of tea: Is not something you like
Eg: reading books is not my cup of tea
11. Too good to be true: tobe impossible to be true
Eg: I though I had won the lottery last week but it was too good to be true
12. You mark my words: notice what I say
Eg: you mark my words. That young man will end up in prison
13. You took the words right out of my mouth: I agree with you
Eg: you took the words right out of my mouth. We need to delay that meeting
14. Who cares? : I don’t care
Eg: we are going to be late for that meeting
Who cares? It’s going to be boring
15. In your dreams!: used to say that something will not happen
Eg: one day I’m going to live in that house
In your dream! You’d have to be a billionaire to afford it
16. Give it a rest: used to ask someone to stop talking and doing something
Eg: give it a rest, mary. I am tired of listening to you

17. Guess what? : Do you know?
Eg: guess what? Jill and Pete are expecting a baby
18. What a thought: used to mention something unhappy
Eg: Perhaps your father will marry Sarah
What a thought! We all dislike her
19. It beats me: I cant believe that
It beats me why you are still in love with him
20. I can’t believe my eyes that....: Something is impossible
Eg: I can’t believe my eyes that I have passed the exams.

  1. These idioms are great! I've heard some of these before in movies or tv but wasn't 100% sure of what they meant. Thanks for this idioms list :)
